facial hair transplants

Demand for facial hair transplants has increased tremendously over the last couple of years due to changes in tastes and fashion, courtesy hipster subculture. This enthusiastic young generation has once again introduced the trend of growing mustaches and bushy beards. The fact that some men have fewer facial hairs than others is where Facial Hair Transplantation comes in. More and more young boys are seeking more stubble, believing that a thicker whisker or trendy moustaches will make them look more masculine, sturdy and dignified. Ultimately, it will not only boost their self-image but also their self-confidence.

Facial Hair Transplant Procedure:

Transplanting hair to face is no different than the traditional hair transplant performed on the scalp to address hair thinning and baldness. The procedure involves harvesting baldness resistant, healthy hair follicles from the donor area and transplanting them on the face, in the areas of need. Donor area is selected carefully after making sure that the hairs there are healthy and resistant to DHT hormone. Harvested hairs are then transplanted one by one in the patchy areas in the mustache, beard, goatee and/or side burns.

How Many Grafts Will I Need?

The number of hair follicles transplanted varies from one patient to another depending on the patient’s aesthetic goals. It can be anywhere between a few hundred follicles to over 1,000 grafts. For lesser number of grafts Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique is used for graft harvesting. However, if you need more grafts than you and your surgeon can decide after discussion which hair transplant method will be suitable for you.

When Will I See Results?

Like traditional hair transplant performed on the scalp, facial hair transplant also needs your time and patience before you will be able to see the outcome of surgery. The transplanted hair will shed after 3 to 4 weeks and the follicles will go dormant for a few months. Any signs of hair growth can be seen after 4 to 5 months and it will take 8 to 12 months before you will see the hairs growing at a normal pace like your existing hairs. However, once fully grown, the transplanted hairs don’t need any special care or attention for their growth. You can trim, cut and shave them like existing stubble on your face.
