Healing Process of FUE Hair Transplant

FUE hair transplant treatment in saudi arabia

One of the various reasons behind the continuously increasing popularity of the FUE hair transplant is its quick recovery as compared to the traditional FUT hair transplant. It is a minimally invasive technique that requires very little downtime as well as recovery time, so the patient does not need to remain bed ridden for extended periods neither does he have to stay away from his job and other routine activities for several weeks.

Follicular Unit Extraction is a relatively new hair transplant technique, which unlike the strip method harvesting, does not involve any strip cutting and linear scarring. The surgeon simply extracts the grafts individually using a small punch tool – with a diameter even less than 0.1 mm – and collects them in an artificial medium to keep them alive outside the human body. Once enough follicles have been extracted, the surgeon implants them into the hairless areas just like in case of strip method transplant.

For most patients rather than the cost and nature of procedure, it is the healing process that matters the most when it comes to deciding whether to get a hair transplant or not, as they cannot take weeks off from work.

FUE Hair Transplant:

In this article we will discuss the healing process of FUE hair transplant.

Immediately After the Surgery:

Immediately following the procedure, your scalp will be sore and painful. But you can simply overcome this problem by using cold compressions and consuming the pain medications prescribed by your doctor. However, it is pertinent to mention here that be gentle when using the cold compressions and do not apply a lot of pressure.

Downtime after FUE Hair Transplant:

Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, and does not involve any skin cutting and stitching, it does not involve any extended downtime. Most patients are able to resume non-strenuous routine activities after two days.

Recovery Period:

Since there will be no linear incision at the back or side of the scalp in case of FUE transplant, recovery of the donor area is faster than the Follicular Unit Transplant. The pinhole wounds caused by direct extraction of hair follicles are very small as compared to the linear scar resulting from strip harvesting and therefore heal very quickly. This is the reason that this technique offers faster recovery and less downtime.

When will new Hair Grow?

While you may recover quite quickly from FUE hair transplant, new hair growth will take almost same time as it does in case of FUT hair transplant. It may take several months before you will able to see the final results. The transplanted hair will initially shed – a process called shock loss – and then you will grow new hair. The entire process generally takes 8 months to one year, so a lot of patience will be required.

Surgeon’s Post-op Instructions:

Follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions carefully if you are to recover and uneventfully. Your physician may also prescribe you a topical application for the donor as well as recipient area. In this case apply a thin layer of the ointment as prescribed by the doctor. Your doctor may also prescribe you pain killer medications. You are strictly recommended to stick to the pain medications prescribed by the doctor only and avoid using any other pain management drug as it may contain aspirin, a blood thinner that you need to strictly avoid for a couple of week before and after the hair transplant surgery.
