Receding Hairline Restoration Procedure

hairline restoration procedure

Hair transplant is a great blessing for millions of people suffering from hair loss. One of the initial signs of hair loss is a receded hairline. If you are also seeking an effective receding hairline restoration procedure, look no further than a hair transplant surgery. Most of us know that a hair transplant can grow natural hair on our bald head. However, many of us do not know how a hair transplant actually helps get those natural looking hair back. If you are also interested in knowing receding hairline restoration procedure, you have come to the right place. Here we will explain the procedure in a non-technical way so that you can understand it easily.

Principle behind the Success of Hair Transplant

Donor dominance principle is the key behind success of hair transplant surgery. One thing that you need to understand about surgical hair restoration is that it does not create any new hair follicles. Instead, it redistributes the existing hair on your scalp in a way that your head starts looking lush and full.

There are certain areas of your head that grow hair which are resistant to baldness i.e. hair at these areas do not fall even due to Androgenic Alopecia as well. These include the back and sides of our head. A hair transplant focuses on extracting these balding resistant hair follicles from the back or side of the scalp and transplanting them to the balding areas. Since donor hairs retain their balding resistant characteristics at the recipient area as well, they do not fall out quickly.

Step 1 – Graft Extraction

Extraction of donor hair is the first step of hair transplant procedure. Your surgeon injects a solution (anesthesia) with fine needle into your scalp to make it numb. Now onwards, you will not feel any pain throughout the procedure. Then your surgeon harvests donor hair using either Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), aka strip removal method, or FUE (follicular unit extraction) surgery. If he uses FUT hair transplant technique, a linear strip of skin will be excised from the donor area and thus stitches may be required to close the incision site. However, FUE method, the direct extraction technique, does not require cutting and stitching of skin.

Step 2 – Graft Preparation

After cutting the strip or even extracting the hair follicles directly, the surgeon will hand over them to the technical staff trained to cut the strip under a powerful stereo microscope and obtain grafts of desired size. This has to be done very carefully as a small cut at wrong place will damage the follicle permanently.

Step 3 – Plantation Phase

Plantation of extracted donor hair follicles is the third and last step of hair transplant procedure. Plantation of hair grafts is indeed very much similar to plantation of trees! First, the surgeon creates sites at the frontal part of your head by making small incisions – tiny enough to hold the grafts – at different angles. After site creation, the surgeon carefully places the extracted grafts one by one into these tiny holes. As soon as the insertion of follicles is complete your surgery will be complete.

What to expect after hair transplant?

These transplanted hairs take some time to anchor to the new place and then they will start growing. It takes 10 to 12 days before the follicles attach themselves to the blood supply at the recipient site and start getting essential nutrients from there. You may also experience shock loss 3 to 4 weeks post surgery. Shock loss is a term used for shedding of newly transplanted hair follicles. Up to 90% of the transplanted hair will fall out between 3rd and 5th week. Then the follicles will remain in a dormant state for around three months, and will start growing back after this period.

It may more than a year before you will be able to see the full results of the transplant. Initially, the transplanted hairs will be thin and weak. However, they will soon gain thickness and strength. Human hairs grow at the rate of half inch per month and your transplanted hairs will also grow at this rate. Once fully grown, you can trim, cut and style just like other hairs on your head. These hairs will stay for a long time and would not require any extra care.
