Nevertheless, snipping the damaged ends off is not the only solution for split ends. There are various time tested home remedies that can help keep your locks thick, smooth and silky.
But before discussing the remedies in detail, let’s first have a look at causes of split ends, as knowing the underlying cause of a problem is crucial for its treatment.

Natural Remedies For Split Ends

Now, with the causes of split ends explained, let’s move on to the next step, which includes natural remedies to get rid of split ends.

1. Egg Application:

The simplest, easiest and the most effective remedy for split ends is egg mask. Women since ancient times have been using egg application to keep their locks healthy and shiny. There are various ways in which you can apply egg to your hair. The simplest among them is egg and olive oil mixture. Whip one egg and mix it with one tsp olive oil and one tbsp honey. Apply the mixture on your hair and leave it on for half an hour. Rinse off with mild shampoo and cold water to prevent the egg from cooking. If you don’t have olive oil and honey available – which is very rare – you can simply apply egg beaten with a spoon of water. This would work as a conditioning shampoo. But don’t forget to shampoo your hair thoroughly afterwards.

2. Papaya and Yogurt:

Take one medium sized ripe papaya and blend it thoroughly until you obtain a pulpy paste. Mix it with half cup of yogurt and blend again. Apply this paste on your locks just like any over the counter hair mask. Wait for 30 to 45 minutes and then wash off. This will not only treat the split ends but also give your hair the much needed shine and thickness.

3. Castor oil:

We all know the magical power of castor oil for eyelashes but not many know it can also help treat split ends. Mix equal amounts of castor oil, olive oil and mustard oil. Apply this concoction to clean, dry hair. Cover your head with a warm towel or shower cap and wait for 30 minutes. After that, wash it off with shampoo and cool water.

4. Honey:

Honey is a natural moisturizer. Since dryness is the basic cause of split ends, honey application is the best way to beat the dryness and keep your locks free of split ends. Take spoon full of honey and mix it with some yogurt. Use this mixture to gently massage you hair, especially the ends. Let the mixture sit for 20 to 25 minutes and then rinse it out with a mild shampoo. Besides treating split ends, this remedy will also make your locks super soft and shiny.

5. Avocado and Olive Oil Conditioner:

I love this hair mask personally. All that you need is one ripe avocado and 3 to 4 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil. You can increase or decrease the quantity based on the length of your hair. Mash the avocado and pour olive oil into it. Mix the two really well until you get a smooth, creamy texture. Use this mixture as after shampoo conditioner. Shampoo your locks as usual and then apply this mask to the damp hair. Cover with shower cap and wait for 5 to 30 minutes, depending upon how much time you have. After that, condition your hair as usual and you will be surprised by the smoothness and silkiness of your locks.

6. Coconut oil:

Coconut oil has many awesome benefits and one of them is keeping your hair healthy and free of split ends. Massage your head and hair with lukewarm coconut oil and you will notice significant improvement in the health of your hair. It will help seal up dead ends of your locks.

7. Jojoba oil:

Jojoba oil is known for skin care, but this amazing oil has numerous hair care applications as well. It nourishes your hair to keep them super soft and free of split ends. Take a bit of jojoba oil and apply it to hair ends. Leave it on for half an hour or even overnight and then shampoo as usual. This will leave your hair amazing.

8. Chamomile Tea:

The best way to avoid split ends and smoothen frizzed hair is to give them a rinse with chamomile tea. Steep a couple of tea bags in two cup boiling water. Let it cool to room temperature and then rinse your hair with this concoction.
