Are you shedding hair abnormally? Is a bathroom drain clogged with strands worrying you? Chances are high that you are suffering from hair loss. But that should not take you down, as there is a lot you can do to stop and even reverse this process. Not every hair loss is permanent and needs a hair transplant. If you are suffering from temporary hair thinning, here are 10 best fixes for hair loss that you can try with confidence:

  1. Diet:

The simple rule for keeping your hair healthy is to eat healthy. Your skin and hair health depends directly on what you eat. A healthy, balanced diet, containing all the essential nutrients – proteins, iron, multivitamins, biotin, omega 3 fatty acids, zinc and magnesium – is necessary for keeping your locks thick and long. Get your share of essential nutrients from dairy products, lean meats, leafy greens, nuts, beans, fish and milk. Protein and iron are specifically important for your hairs. Hair fall due to iron deficiency (anemic hair loss) is quite common among women. If you are losing tresses without any apparent reason, get an iron test done. If you are iron deficient, your doctor may suggest you iron supplements.

  1. Massage:

Massaging is the simplest and easiest way to improve your hair health and prevent hair loss. It improves blood flow to the scalp, which makes the hair follicles strong. Ideally you should lightly massage your scalp with your favorite oil every time before you shampoo your hair. If that is not possible for you, massage your scalp at least once a week.

  1. Avoid Hair Styling Tools:

Heat from the hair styling tools, like blow dryers and iron rods, can cause breakage and hair thinning, especially if you dye your hair regularly. It is advised to reduce use of these hair styling products as much as possible. Let your hair air dry after you shampoo them. If necessary, use blow dryer set on the lowest speed. Also use serums to minimize the damage.

  1. Manage Your Stress:

One of the most common causes of temporary hair loss is stress and anxiety. If you workload or kids at home are keeping you stressed all the time, chances are high that you will soon start noticing more strands in the brush then on your head. Just breathe deeply – it really helps. Both physical and emotional stress can hinder hair growth. If you have gone through some traumatic situation (breakup, divorce, demise or job loss etc) in the last few months, you may experience hair loss. But the good thing about hair loss caused by stress and anxiety is that it is temporary and reversible. Your hairs start growing back as soon as you come out of stress.

  1. Get Your Hormone Levels Tested:

Hormones are also among the biggest culprits, when it comes to hair loss. In women especially, higher levels of testosterone and a drop in estrogen levels can trigger hair loss. This normally happens after pregnancy or during menopause. Otherwise hormonal fluctuations can also cause hair fall. See some Trichologist and he will suggest you some hormone tests to determine if hormones are really the reason behind your hair loss.

  1. Onion Juice:

Onion juice is rich in sulfur, which helps improve blood circulation to the scalp, thereby enhancing regeneration of hair follicles. The antibacterial properties of onion also help counter and fungal infection and reduce inflammation. Take one medium sized onion and fine chop it. Squeeze it in a clean muslin cloth to extract the juice. Apply this juice directly to your scalp and wait for half an hour. After that, shampoo your hair as usual. Repeat this twice or thrice a week for a couple of months to see any improvement.

  1. Aloe Vera Gel:

Aloe Vera gel is high in enzymes that play a key role on healthy hair growth. Its alkaline nature helps balance the pH of scalp. Regular application of aloe gel to the scalp relieves itchiness, redness or any inflammation of the scalp. It is also a very effective natural remedy for alleviating dandruff. Take a fresh aloe vera leave and peel it carefully to obtain the gel. Apply this gel onto the scalp and leave it on for a couple of hours (or at least 30 minutes) and then wash off with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water. For best results repeat the process three to four times a week. Oral consumption of aloe vera gel also helps maintain hair health.

  1. Coconut Milk:

Coconut milk is a rich source of protein and fatty acids necessary. When applied to the locks, it makes them shiner, healthier and thicker. To make fresh coconut milk at home take freshly grated coconut in a pan and add half cup water to it. Let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes and then strain. Let it cool to room temperature and then massage your scalp thoroughly with it. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then shampoo as usual.

  1. Garlic:

Like onion, garlic is also a rich source of sulfur and other enzymes that aid hair growth. This is the reason women have been using it since ages to counter hair loss. Peel and crush a few cloves of garlic. Add one tablespoon coconut oil to it and bring it to boil on low heat for a couple of minutes. Let it cool down to room temperature and then apply to the scalp. Let it sit for half an hour and then wash off with lukewarm water and shampoo.

  1. Egg and Olive Oil

Take one egg white and whip it with one tablespoon olive oil. Beat until to get a paste like consistency. Apply the paste to your scalp and hair and wait for 20 to 25 minutes before washing your hair with mild shampoo and cold water.

Try these natural remedies and enjoy thick and healthy hair.
